Feral Cats
A feral cat is an unsocialized cat. They live in colonies near a food source and breed prolifically unless spayed or neutered. These cats are not suitable for rescue and adoption due to their wild nature.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a program for reducing the population of feral cats through natural attrition. In TNR, cats are humanely trapped, spay/neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their outdoor homes. Alley Cat Allies provides a good discusssion of feral cat issues and solutions. The Humane Society of the United States also provides a wealth of information about feral cats.

Care Feline Rescue is a non-profit organization in the Central Florida area that works in partnership with Orange County government to operate a TNR program. Please visit their website (carefelinerescue.org) for more information.
