Less Adoptable Cats -- Friday July 31st, 2009
It's All About The Cats, Inc is pleased to announce their participation in the nationwide Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Day
sponsored by Petfinder.com.
We will be celebrating for the entire week of August 9 to 15, 2009,
culminating in two special adoption events on Friday and Saturday of that week.
For the purpose of this event, we have classified certain cats in our program as "less adoptable" not because they are less loving or deserving of a home but because they are less likely to be adopted by the general public.
These "less adoptable" include cats with physical imperfections such as Bart and Bessie who have hazy eyes due to a previous eye infection, cats with medical disabilities such as Adelle who is FIV+, cats who do not show well at adoption events due to being nervous around large crowds, and plain black cats who always have a harder time getting placed (see our menu item "WHY Adopt a Black Cat?" on our website).
Our board of directors is currently considering offering incentives for qualified families to adopt one of our 'less adoptable cats' so please check our website for further updates.

We have a section on our website explaining our fostering process: http://www.itsallaboutthecats.org/info/display?PageID=2878
Low-Cost Spay/Neuter -- Tuesday April 14th, 2009
The following is an excerpt from the website of Rep. Scott Randolph (FL House of Representatives, District 36):
HB 451 (Low-Cost Spaying/Neutering) Passes House Agriculture Committee
Our bill to expand the use of a surcharge to provide low-cost sterilizations for dogs and cats has just passed another hurdle in the House. HB 451 passed the Agriculture and Natural Resources & Policy Committee with nary a whimper. The bill would save Florida counties millions of dollars each year by reducing the numbers of animals euthanized in Florida each year, which currently stands at 300,000 (with over 17,000 in Orange County in 2008). HB 451 is now slated to be heard by the Military & Local Affairs Policy Committee, then the Public Safety & Domestic Security Policy Committee, and then by the General Government Policy Council. However, Rep. Randolph will attempt to have the bill heard directly by the Council next, so that it may reach a floor vote sooner.

It's A Three Legged What? -- Tuesday August 26th, 2008
The month of August 2008 brought IAATC something it had never seen before, four times over. Up until now, IAATC had never had a cat or kitten with 3 legs, this month we have had four. IAATC would never turn the helpless away; however it has taken a toll on our budget. Each amputation costs us on average of $500. This adds up very quickly when you have multiples show up needing the same surgery.
It began on August 4th, when Bagel was discovered in the parking lot of Panera Bread at the Loop. He supposedly was caught in the fan belt of a car. His leg was fractured so badly that it need to be amputated. He had many other scrapes and scratches. Bagel recovered quickly and was adopted on August 22nd by a wonderful family.
August 19th we received a phone call from Osceola county animal control regarding a kitten that had been brought in who was just so sweet and affectionate but definitely had something wrong with her right front leg. Once we met Lexi we knew we couldn’t leave her there knowing what her fate would be. We immediately took her to the vet. She had a fractured leg joint. She would need an amputation. Lexi has recovered nicely from her surgery and has learned to get around great on her 3 legs. Lexi is unique from the other 3 in the fact that she lost a front leg which is a bit more difficult to learn to cope without than a rear leg.
One day later, on August 21st, we received a phone call from our vet. Some children had found a kitten and brought her to them. She had been bitten by something and had severe nerve damage to her left rear leg. The only option was to amputate it. She, Midge, is recovering well and is well on her way to learning to get around and cope with 3 legs. She will be ready for a new home within the next couple of weeks.
On August 26th, while at our vet, we noticed a little guy named Pixel, who had been in for an amputation a week or so before when Lexi had her amputation. He had been presumably hit by a car and was found in the road. He too had to have his left rear leg amputated. He was back at the vet due to a severe ulcer and infection on his incision site. He was being cared for by another rescue group but they had run out of people who could care for him and his extensive infection. He sat in the stainless steel cage with his plastic cone on his head and open wound on his hip. It was enough to bring tears to your eyes; he just looked so sad and helpless. We could have left him there but anyone with a heart could have seen he needed someone to help him heal so he could again be happy and play like little kittens should. He has a long recovery road ahead of him, but hopefully it will go quickly and he will be ready for that new home sooner than we think.
As you can see, we have experienced something this month that we have never had in the 2 ½ years that IAATC has been operating. We were glad we were there to help these poor little ones when they needed it most. If you are touched in the least bit by our three legged babies please feel free to make a sponsorship contribution or stop by our events at the Petco at the loop to make a donation. Every little bit will help in paying for their surgeries. If you would like to see any of our 3 legged wonders watch the attendance for our events. We will try to get some updated photos and possibly videos up on their webpages for everyone to see.

It's Raining Kittens! -- Tuesday May 13th, 2008
Ok, so it's really not raining kittens we are just flooded with them. "Kitten season" has arrived and is in full swing at IAATCI. We have a large number of kittens that are available for adoption and looking for their forever homes. If you or anyone you know is looking to adopt a kitten please refer to our website. We have approximately 20 available this week and more to follow in the coming weeks. This only stresses the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.
OC Animal Services Grant -- Tuesday February 19th, 2008
It's All About the Cats, Inc. has recently completed implementation of a Trustfund Community Grant to spay/neuter and vaccinate feral and stray cats.
We submitted a grant request to Orange County in August 2007 and the grant was approved on November 26, 2007.
The first surgery/vaccine was performed on December 4, 2007 and the last was performed on February 14, 2008.
Of the total 52 cats spayed/neutered, 14 were male and 38 were female, with 12 of the female cats being in heat and two being pregnant. At least eight of the female cats had recently produced litters of kittens, most of which could be socialized and placed in adoptive homes.
We think that this grant project was a huge success since surgeries performed during this grant program will prevent over 340,000 unwanted cats from being born over the next 6 years.
For more information, please visit our website - look for the menu item at the left of the screen.

Adopt-a-Senior Pet Month -- Thursday November 1st, 2007
It's All About the Cats is celebrating November as Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month.
Think of a pet that is already trained and doesn't chew or scratch everything in sight--a pet who will love you unconditionally. That's what you get when you adopt a senior pet.
Some people worry that a senior pet comes with problems, but all of our senior cats have had a home and they just want one again. An older cat is much easier to deal with - and they are still playful.
For example, Trixie is a loving, healthy senior cat looking for that one special home to cherish her for the rest of her life. She doesn't ask for much: just a warm place to sleep, good meals and plenty of love.
During Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month, take the opportunity to get acquainted with the older pets available at It's All About the Cats. Or visit your local shelter to see who is waiting there.

1000th Adoption! -- Saturday August 25th, 2007
Congratulations!
On Saturday August 25th, Its All about the Cats celebrated their 1000th adoption. A great accomplishment since its founding in January 2005.
We would like to congratulate Fuji on being our 1000th adoptee and his new family on their newest addition!
The 1000th adopter received a wonderful gift basket valued at over $150!
The day was a huge success, but none of this could have been possible without a lot of hard work and support from so many people.
A special thank you to The Petco Foundation, Petco at the Loop and Maggie Wang at http://magyss.com/ for all of their generous donations.
A special thank you to all of the "behind the scenes" volunteers at It All About The Cats, without the ongoing support from so many people, such a monumental occasion would not have happened.
Thank You to our adoption day volunteers, thank you to all the foster homes and thank you to all of our adopters who make all the hard work worthwhile!
Please visit our Photo Gallery page for a few more pictures of the happy family.
